    80-year-old pedestrian identified after Essex County crash involving alleged drunk driver

    ESSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The pedestrian who died in Essex County after Virginia State Police say she was hit by an alleged drunk driver has been identified.

    Police identified the pedestrian as 80-year-old Diane P. Keane, of Tappahannock.

    The crash occurred at 4:03 p.m. on Monday, July 1 in the 500 block of South Water Lake in Essex County.

    Police said a 2003 Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on South Water Lane near the intersection of Earl Street when it crossed over the center line, ran off the left side of the road, hit a curb, and then hit Keane.

    Keane died at the scene, according to police.

    The driver of the Explorer, 59-year-old Michelle A. King, of Richmond County was charged with driving while intoxicated/under the influence of drugs, DUI manslaughter, reckless driving and obstruction.
