New students gearing up for the fall semester at Edgecombe Community College are invited to join college officials for a new student orientation event.

The event will be held from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday on the community college’s Tarboro campus in the multipurpose room of the Barnhill-Jenkins Center for Innovation and is aptly named the Student Transition, Advising, and Registration Time @ ECC (or START@ECC), to help new students start off on the right track prior to the fall semester.

New students are encouraged to take steps toward their first exciting year at Edgecombe Community College at the START@ECC event. Meet one-on-one with an academic counselor, register for classes, learn more about how to succeed in college and receive tips on how to pay for college during this fun and informative event.

The START@ECC event is free and is a required event for new students.

All new students and readmitted students (with a last date of attendance greater than two years) are required to attend a START@ECC event or complete an online session before registering for classes.

Information about new student orientation is emailed to all new students at their my.edgecombe.edu email as part of the official “Welcome to ECC” letter that all new students receive.

One-hour in-person sessions includes the following activities:

Meeting current students and facultyTouring campusAdvising and registering for the upcoming semesterTaking the placement tests or registering for a date to take the testGetting financial aid counselingReceiving a free ECC branded gift

For questions about the orientation event, contact Patricia Mitchell, an administrative assistant at the college at mitchellp@edgecombe.edu or by photo at (252) 618-6538.
