Tarrytown H-Bridge ramp near Metro North station closed for emergency repairs

The northeast H-Bridge ramp near Tarrytown's Metro North station is closed Tuesday for emergency repairs.

The village of Tarrytown said an emergency repair was needed after a failed inspection for a portion of the bridge Monday evening.

The span of the H-shaped bridge was reduced to just northbound traffic heading west overnight to avoid the unsafe part of the bridge but was reopened to two-way traffic by 11 p.m.

The H-shaped bridge is the only structure that allows cars to access the Tarrytown Hudson River waterfront, including homes, businesses and parks on the west side of the station, as well as farther into the main part of Tarrytown, since the train tracks block inland access to the river.

The northeast ramp of the bridge will remain closed until repairs are completed. The village said traffic will only be permitted northbound over the H-Bridge heading west toward the Hudson River through the Depot Plaza intersection. All traffic heading east will need to exit the waterfront through Beekman Avenue and Sleepy Hollow.

The village said closures to the bridge may cause significant traffic delays to residents, especially during heavy commuter times.
