DAR members attend GHOTES genealogy conference
Fourteen members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) representing ten different Chapters from across the United States attended the Genealogy and History of the Eastern Shore (GHOTES) four day conference in Parksley held June 26-29, 2024. Of the Northampton County Chapter, Anne Barnes, Esther Baker, Cara Burton, Kathy Lehman, and Susan Robinson attended.

Thousands without power across Southside Virginia and Roanoke area
(WSET) — Thousands of people across Central Virginia, mostly located across the Southside and in Roanoke. The outages take place as storms rake across the state. As of 5:15 p.m., 4,600 customers are without power across the Southside, according to AEP's Outage Map. Most of these are in and just east of Martinsville.

Wheelabrator trash plant closes as regional waste authority pushes for new solutions
