TAUNTON – What’s the inspiration behind Taunton’s new food truck, FLVR?
For head chef/co-owner Zachary Wirth, it’s his prior culinary experience, as well as social media trends and reaction.
“That’s where the customer base comes from,” he said, talking about the foods he and so many others look at on Instagram and other social media. “I want to be someone where people look at our food on Instagram and Tik Tok reels and say, ‘this looks amazing.’”
Wirth, along with his wife Keri, father Charlie, and mother Cindy, want to reach as many foodies as possible with their menu.
FLVR Food Truck just opened in Taunton, at 314 Bay St., located in the parking lot of the Polish American Citizens Club.
What's on the daily menu?
The menu boasts an assortment of picture-ready comfort foods.
For their finger foods, selections include chicken tenders with multiple sauce selections, fried shrimp with fries, chicken and waffles, and truffle parmesan fries with garlic aioli.
A stand-out is the FLVR fries, complete with bacon, cheese sauce, chicken tenders, and ranch.
For sandwiches, you have the Crispy Byrd, which is a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with ranch, that can be made Nashville-style.
Another stand out is the Kielbasa Reuben sandwich, which is kielbasa sausage, Swiss cheese, slaw, and thousand island dressing, on marble rye bread.
The most popular items, so far, are the smash burgers, which are all made from angus beef.
The O.G. Smash is a bacon-cheddar burger.
The Oklahoma Smash is shaved onions cooked into the beef patty and topped with sauce and cheddar.
The Spicy Green Monster is Swiss cheese, jalapenos, caramelized onions, and spicy honey.
This reporter had and recommends the Firehouse Smash, which is cheddar, bacon jam, fried onions, and BBQ sauce.
Specials
Wirth said FLVR is taking advantage of the “fun and interactive” nature of announcing specials through social media. “It keeps people interested and paying attention,” he said.
Some specials already offered or in the works include stuffed pork empanadas, Nashville-style chicken tacos, and handmade egg rolls.
“Nothing is out of reach for us,” he said, adding the menu is ever-evolving, with staples and specials being based around customer reaction.
Experience
The Wirth family is no stranger to the hospitality industry. The family ran a BBQ-style catering business for many years.
Zachary got his Culinary Arts degree from Le Cordon Blue Culinary College in Boston. After that, he spent several years working in kitchens in Central Florida.
Previously, he was the Chef for Deep Pond Farms’ Farmhouse Kitchen food truck.
Earlier this year he and his family made the decision to start a food truck business together. “We are now a full family business.”
Location
FLVR has an arrangement to have its base of operations at Pulaski Square, in the parking lot of the Polish American Citizens Club .
“They were looking for a food truck. They’ve enabled us to be here with this setup,” said Zachary, adding the Wirth family is part-Polish.
With the deal, patrons of the Club now have a regular food option. Zachary said FLVR has already been approached to cater events at the Club.
Maximizing the potential
The focus right now, said Zachary, is perfecting the menu, establishing a strong customer base, and “maximizing the potential” of FLVR.
After finishing out the year, he said FLVR intends on braving the winter, weather permitting. “As long as we have hot running water, we’ll be ready to go.”
FLVR is available for catering and special events. They are already signed up to be a food vendor at Taunton’s Lights On Festival , being held on December 7.
Hours
FLVR Food Truck is open Thursday – Monday, from 11:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
