    Bump, Set, Spike: The 2024 Taunton Daily Gazette Boys Volleyball All-Scholastics

    Another high school boys volleyball season has come and gone in the Greater Taunton area.

    Dighton-Rehoboth (13-7, 10-4 Tri-Valley League) had its best season in decades , finishing tied for second in the TVL and qualifying for the postseason for the first time in 20 years, reaching the Division 2 Round of 32 before falling to No. 13 Minnechaug. Taunton (5-15) performed a season sweep of Attleboro while also earning wins over Hingham, King Philip and Quincy.

    With the spring season now in the rearview, here's a final look back at the Greater Taunton area athletes who stood out among the crowd to earn their spot as 2024 Taunton Daily Gazette Boys Volleyball All-Scholastics.

    Player of the Year

    Ian Hoskins, Dighton-Rehoboth

    The senior outside hitter wrapped up an impressive high school volleyball career being described by coach Jon Pacheco as probably the best boys volleyball player to ever come through the program. He led the Falcons with 261 kills while also recording 143 digs and 82 blocks on his way to being named Tri-Valley League MVP. Hoskins will continue his academic and volleyball career in the fall at Endicott College.

    First Team All-Scholastics

    Dantae Bauer, Taunton

    The junior libero was praised by coach Toby Chaperon for how he stepped into the role, calling him a "rock" on the Tiger defense. He also praised his ability to set in a pinch as well as for being consistent with his serves. Some of his most notable outings this spring include recording 16 assists against Attleboro and 10 digs against King Philip.

    Daniel Freitas, Taunton

    The junior setter was described by Chaperon as one of the best in the area, with a high IQ and real knack for the game of volleyball. Some of his most notable outings include recording 28 assists, a pair of digs and a block against Barnstable, 27 assists against Durfee and 11 digs, six assists, two aces and two kills against eventual Division 1 semi-finalists Milford.

    Travis Johnson, Taunton

    The junior opposite hitter was described by Chaperon as one of the Tigers' most most dangerous players on the front row, both offensively and defensively. Despite missing the first few matches of the season recovering from injury, he was still one of the biggest contributors to his team's efforts. Some of his most notable performances this spring include 22 kills and four blocks against King Philip, 21 kills against Quincy and 15 kills, three digs and a pair of blocks against Barnstable.

    The sophomore outside hitter impressed in his first varsity season, recording 111 kills and 36 aces for the Falcons. Pacheco praised him for providing an unexpected boost to D-R's potent offense.

    Sam Courcy, Dighton-Rehoboth

    The senior libero wrapped up a solid high school volleyball career, leading defensive efforts with 196 digs and 17 aces. A TVL Honorable Mention, Courcy also was a member of the golf and basketball teams and is headed to Plymouth State University in the fall.

    Connar Dexter, Dighton-Rehoboth

    The senior middle hitter wrapped up a strong high school volleyball career recording triple digit totals in both kills (150) and blocks (135, team best) for the second year in a row. A TVL All-Star, Pacheco described him as one of his smartest players. Dexter was also a member of the hockey team and is headed to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the fall.

    Yasiel Rodriguez, Dighton-Rehoboth

    The junior setter returned to the team after a year away and had an instant impact on offense, leading the Falcons with 440 assists, as well as 91 digs and 31 blocks. A TVL Honorable Mention, Rodriguez is also a member of the basketball team.
