    Applications pour in for Taunton Union Block units

    Applications are being accepted and interest is huge for the soon-to-be-completed Union Block Apartments on Main Street in Taunton.

    As of June 25, according to Bryanna Diamond, the operations marketing manager for Peabody Properties, which is managing the rental property, 247 applications had been received from prospective tenants.

    Just a little more than 30% of those applications have come from Taunton residents.

    Ex-city councilor's upscale Taunton 'speakeasy' closing for good

    The upscale cocktail bar National Charter 957, located at 9 Taunton Green, will be closing its doors permanently on July 13, after about a year and half of being in business.

    It'll be open for one last weekend, the evenings of July 11 to July 13.

    Owner and former city councilor Christopher Coute told the Gazette the decision is based on his current life and doing what’s best for his family.

    Taunton triple stabbing suspect broke into home armed with hammer and knife, police say

    The man accused of stabbing three people during a home invasion on Paul Bunker Drive in Taunton this past Tuesday afternoon has been held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, according to a written statement from Taunton Police.

    Cye Key, 24, from Taunton, was arraigned Wednesday morning, July 3, in Taunton District Court on the following charges: home invasion; two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; and possession of a class b substance, crack cocaine.

    MBTA: South Coast Rail will run on weekends

    Maya Bingaman, MBTA communications manager, has confirmed that South Coast Rail will offer service on weekends.

    What remains unknown, as of this writing, is how often during the weekend that the service will run.

    “Seeing as ... South Coast Rail is an extension of the Middleborough line commuter rail service, on which weekend service is already scheduled and offered, it is not a question of whether weekend service will be provided, but rather at what levels,” said Bingaman.

    Taunton native signs NHL contract

    Adam Gaudette, a Taunton native, is headed back to the Canadian capital to play hockey.

    The Ottawa Senators announced this past Tuesday that they signed center Gaudette to a one-year, two-way contract with their AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators, on a deal worth $775,000 at the NHL level and $450,000 at the AHL level.

    This marks the second stint with the Senators for Gaudette.
