Orlowski Returns as Assistant Athletic Director
WILKES-BARRE, PA (July 23, 2024) -- With our student-athletes making final preparations to return to campus in three short weeks, the King's College Athletic Department and Associate Vice President and Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Cheryl Ish released the newest addition to the department's staff. On Tuesday afternoon, Ish announced Andy Orlowski's return to King's College as the next Assistant Athletic Director.

Montoursville School District to offer free school meals for all students
Montoursville, Pa. — The Montoursville Area School District announced that it will be offering free school meals to all students for the upcoming school year. The meals will include one free breakfast and one free lunch each day school is in session, according to the district. The free meals will be offered throughout the entirety of the 2024-2025 school year. Balances on student cafeteria accounts will remain, according to the district, and students can still use their cafeteria account to purchase approved snacks, beverages and extra food items in the cafeteria. Students may also purchase "second" meals at breakfast and lunch. Prices of the second meals vary depending on the school and can be found on the district's website.
Pa. businessman admits not remitting taxes on $615K in cash payments to employees
WILLIAMSPORT — A Lycoming County businessman is facing jail time after admitting he did not pay federal taxes on cash payments he made to employees. J. Michael Barr, 59, of Cogan Station, pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. Middle District Court to a charge of failure to pay over taxes.

Man charged for failing to disclose arrest on gun application
Muncy, Pa. — A person’s failure to disclose a previous drug conviction might prove costly after a felony charge was issued by a local magistrate judge. Patrick Robert Ranck, 43, of Hughesville allegedly checked “no” to a question asking if he had previously been convicted of a felony. An investigation by State Police uncovered that was inaccurate, according to a complaint. Investigators said Ranck was convicted of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in August of 2008. Ranck is being charged with false written statement to buy a firearm and statement under penalty of law. No bail is listed for Ranck. Docket sheet

NEPIRC Receives Community Needs Grant from Scranton Area Community Foundation
The Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center (NEPIRC) is pleased to announce that it is a first-time recipient of a $10,000 Community Needs Grant from the Scranton Area Community Foundation (SAF) to support NEPIRC’s Manufacturing Ambassador Dream Team efforts in Scranton and throughout Lackawanna County. NEPIRC’s Dream Team program is focused on bridging the gap between education and careers in the manufacturing sector. The Dream Team initiative raises awareness of career options in advanced manufacturing amongst high school students by bringing young manufacturing professionals into the classroom to talk to students about their career journeys and how their careers have positively impacted their lives by highlighting real-life experiences.
