UPDATE: Williamson County Constable Precinct 4 reports that 8-year old Layken Stokes was found safe Thursday morning.

According to a release from the Williamson County Sheriff's Office Thursday afternoon, investigators determined that Stokes was not abducted, but had voluntarily left her home. Officials say a vigilant rancher spotted the girl roughly two miles from her home in a field, and called 911 to report the sighting.

"The circumstances surrounding the runaway led us to seek assistance from our law enforcement partners," said WCSO Cmdr. John Foster. "We approach matters involving missing children with utmost seriousness, erring on the side of caution. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the community, and particularly to the observant rancher, for their support throughout this incident."
