New north Minneapolis trail construction set to begin next week
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Construction is set to begin next week on a mixed-use riverfront trail in north Minneapolis that will extend a popular regional trail. The new riverfront trail segment will connect Ole Olson Park and the 26th Avenue North Overlook, creating a new 1,000-foot trail in the process that officials hope will add "new riverside experiences" to the area for pedestrians and cyclists. The trail also connects the 26th Avenue North Overlook to the downtown riverfront and the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway – a 51-mile continuous bike/walk trail that circles most of Minneapolis.

According to the White Bear Lake Police Department, around 11 a.m. officers were called to a home near the intersection of White Bear Avenue and Rishworth Lane.

27-year-old man dies after falling from a tree on the Fourth of July
AITKIN, Minn. — A 27-year-old man died after falling from a tree near the shores of Gun Lake in Aitkin on the Fourth of July. According to police, Henry M. Cannon, was climbing a large White Pine tree near while celebrating the holiday with friends when a branch broke and he fell approximately 25-feet to the ground. The fall knocked Cannon unconscious and resulted in multiple internal injuries, said authorities. Cannon was transported to Riverwood Hospital and administered lifesaving care. Unfortunately, Cannon succumbed to his injuries. Police are still investigating the incident. Several different law enforcement agencies had a busy Fourth of July evening in Minneapolis, reporting they made 30 arrests and gave out five citations overnight.Of those arrested and given citations, 27 were adults and eight were juveniles. The ages range between mid-teen to early twenties. O'Hara said similar to last year a number of those involved were from outside the city of Minneapolis.

CHIPPEWA FALLS — An Altoona teen won’t face jail time after leading police on a high-speed chase in February. Evan E. Harper, 19, 2219 Hillside Road, hit speeds of 106 mph during the chase, which began when he fled an underage party. As part of a deferred prosecution plea agreement, he will avoid any jail time.
