Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating an incident where a child was pulled unresponsive from a residential pool in Islandia on July 2. Fourth Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting a child found unresponsive in a pool, located on Sunflower Lane, at approximately 12:40 p.m. Chosen Johnson-Pierre, 2, was pulled out of the water by a family member. Family started CPR until first responders arrived on scene.

Woman seriously injured in single-vehicle crash in Shirley
Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a single-vehicle crash that seriously injured a woman in Shirley on July 1. Gottleb Chumi was driving a 2020 Nissan Altima on eastbound Sunrise Highway at exit 58 when her vehicle struck a guardrail on the right shoulder and then overturned at approximately 5:15 a.m. Chumi, 25, of Hampton Bays, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

Police issue Silver Alert for missing Centereach man
Suffolk County Police have issued a Silver Alert for a missing Centereach man who suffers from psychiatric disorders. James Shurman, 35, was last seen leaving his home, located at 54 Park St., at approximately 4 a.m. on June 28 in a gray 2015 Chrysler 200 with NY license plate KRP 8819. Shurman was reported missing by family on June 30 at 10:55 a.m. He is believed to be suicidal and off his medication.
