Skies clear in time for Setauket Memorial Day Parade and wreath laying ceremony
Despite the threat of rain, the Setauket Memorial Day Parade went on as planned on Monday, May 27. Hosted by Veterans of Foreign War Post 3054, the event began with a wreath-laying ceremony on the Village Green. After the ceremony, veterans, volunteer firefighters, elected officials, the Ward Melville marching band, Scouts, dancers, twirlers and more marched up Main Street to Route 25A, where hundreds of participants lined the street.

Man arrested for selling vape products to minors in Shirley
Suffolk County Police arrested one person on May 29 for selling tobacco & vape products to people under the age of 21 during compliance checks at multiple businesses in Shirley and Mastic. As part of the Suffolk County Police ‘Operation Smoke Out,’ Seventh Precinct Crime Section officers checked nine locations for age compliance related to sales of vape and tobacco products. Violations were found at one.

Mather Hospital earns an ‘A’ grade for patient safety from Leapfrog
Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson earned its 20th top ‘A’ grade for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group in the current ratings period, the most of any hospital in Suffolk County. The national distinction recognizes the hospital’s commitment to patient safety and achievements in promoting best outcomes. Mather was one of seven Northwell Health hospitals to earn the top grade, according to a report released today by The Leapfrog Group for Spring 2024.
