The Wine Connoisseur: Vermouth…new category and new brands
Vermouth… the centuries-old, aromatized wine, mostly from Italy, has had a revival!. The new category of Italian vermouths is “Vermouth di Torino,” from the northwest region of Piedmont. Although some of these vermouths made been for hundreds of years, in 2019, it was officially recognized as a geographical designation I.G.P. (Indicazione Geografica Protetta) that protects and guarantees its providence and quality.
Shoreham-Wading River congratulates Class of 2024
Shoreham-Wading River High School held its 48th commencement ceremony on Friday, June 21. Families and spectators were welcomed by Principal Frank Pugliese, followed by the national anthem performed by Torre Cintorino, Cassandra Keany, Emily Murray and Robert Tacke, with ASL interpretation by Abigail DeLumen, Carly Mulroy, Elizabeth Sabino and Emma Turley.

Rocky Point celebrates 50th commencement ceremony
Members of Rocky Point High School’s Class of 2024 began the next stage of their lives at the district’s annual commencement ceremony on Wednesday, June 26. As the students proudly walked onto the school’s football field, the sounds of “Pomp and Circumstance” greeted them. The ceremony began with a welcome from Principal James Moeller, who thanked administrators, board of education members, educators, parents and family members for their collective guidance and support along the students’ path to success.
LIMEHOF awards $10k in scholarships to high school seniors
The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) in Stony Brook awarded $1000 scholarships to ten graduating students from across Long Island at an awards ceremony on June 30. Also, for the second year in a row a Pat DeRosa Memorial Scholarship was awarded in memory of LIMEHOF inductee Pat DeRosa.

Conversations on the Sacred concert returns to All Souls Church July 6
Historic All Souls Church, 61 Main Street in Stony Brook Village presents monthly Saturdays at Six concerts, Second Saturdays poetry readings, and Native American Drumming to the community. Each of these programs brings its own unique mix of visitors to the Stanford White-designed national landmark chapel. Their latest event, Conversations on the Sacred on Saturday, July 6, will combine, music, poetry and drumming into one unique performance.

King Kullen Grocery Co., Inc. of Hauppauge has donated $10,000 to benefit summer camp programs for disadvantaged children in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, a tradition started by King Kullen in 1992. Suffolk D.A.: Suffolk County business owners sentenced for sales tax fraud
Auto Body Shop and Furniture Business Owners Each Pleaded Guilty to Stealing New York State Taxes After Failing to Report Taxable Sales. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced on July 2 that Brian Soltan, 62, of West Islip, owner of several East Islip auto body businesses, and Gerald McCrystal, 51, of Dix Hills, owner of Farmingdale-based furniture stores, were each sentenced after pleading guilty to grand larceny on separate cases for stealing sales tax money from New York State.
