Good samaritans rescue woman from burning vehicle in Fort Salonga
Suffolk County Police Fourth Precinct officers responded to a motor vehicle crash after three good Samaritans pulled a woman to safety from a burning vehicle on June 23. Tempestt Harris-Buckner was driving a 2021 Hyundai Elantra northbound on Bread and Cheese Hollow Road when she swerved to avoid an animal in the street just north of Pulaski Street at 5:57 p.m. The Hyundai struck a utility pole and both the pole and vehicle caught fire, trapping Harris-Buckner.
Holtsville Ecology Site & Animal Preserve offers children’s summer programs and tours
Registration is now open for several children’s programs hosted by the Holtsville Ecology Site and Animal Preserve this summer. Children entering second through sixth grade, can register for the following three programs: Where the Wild Things Are, during which they will learn why wild animals do not make good family pets but rather belong in the wild; Fun on the Farm, where they will learn what’s involved in caring for farm animals, such as cows, pigs, chickens and goats; and Ice Ice Baby, during which students can learn about cold-blooded animals including snakes, lizards and turtles. All three programs cost $10 per child and will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Where the Wild Things Are will meet on Thursday, July 18; Fun on the Farm will meet on Thursday, Aug. 8; and Ice Ice Baby meets Tuesday, July 23.

Man found strangled on side of road in East Farmingdale
Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of a man who was found in East Farmingdale on June 22. First Precinct Police officers responded to Garity Place after a passerby called 911 to report a man on the side of the road at approximately 1:35 a.m. The man, Juan Carlos Diaz Geronimo, was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Farmingdale Fire Department.It was determined that Diaz Geronimo, 48, of North Amityville, was strangled.
Man seriously injured in Miller Place car crash
Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash involving an ambulance that seriously injured a man in Miller Place on June 22. An ambulance with its lights and sirens activated was traveling westbound on Route 25A when an eastbound 2008 Subaru Forester, driven by Mathew Goff, attempted to make a left turn onto Parkside Avenue and collided with the ambulance at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Suffolk D.A.: Man sentenced to 22 years for sexually abusing two elder women in Mastic Beach
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced on June 21 that Derrick Clancy, 43, was sentenced to 22 years to life in prison after pleading guilty in April to burglary, sexual abuse, and other related charges, for breaking into the homes of two elderly women in Mastic Beach and sexually assaulting them.
