The Centennial and Jensen Beach softball teams suffered similar fates in the 2024 FHSAA state playoffs.

The Eagles and Falcons each suffered one-run losses Friday to end their seasons: Centennial lost at home 1-0 to Jupiter in nine innings while Jensen Beach fell 3-2 at American Heritage-Plantation.

On Thursday, John Carroll Catholic battered Miami Christian 12-3 to reach the Class 2A state semifinals.

Here's a look at details from this week's matchups:

    Hailey Brereton's gem not enough

Centennial junior pitcher Hailey Brereton struck out 16 batters over nine innings of work. She allowed just four hits total for the Eagles (21-8).

Her opposite, Jupiter sophomore Sasha Seidel, was equal to the task, however, and struck out eight batters in nine scoreless innings of work.

Sophomore Joslyn Riddle scored the pivotal run for Jupiter (15-7), scoring in the top of the ninth to send the Warriors to the Class 7A state semifinals.

    Jensen Beach succumbs late

The Falcons and Patriots plated runs in the first but didn't score again until the seventh inning of this Class 4A matchup.

Jensen Beach (17-9) managed to score a run to take the lead in the seventh inning, but then allowed the Patriots (18-10) to win in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the inning.

    Rams power into state semifinals

Junior Isabella Ramirez drove in three runs and Cristina Leschander hit a home run to drive the Rams into the Class 2A state semifinals with a 12-3 win over Miami Christian.

Mikale Lemons and Briley Orton also drove in two runs for the Rams while five total players had multiple hits in the contest.

Ramirez also pitched for John Carroll, allowing four hits in three innings of relief for starter Makayla Ortiz.

John Carroll Catholic will play University Christian in the state semifinals on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Clermont.
