Chick-fil-A to open Florida's first drive-thru only location on the Treasure Coast

Florida's first drive-thru-only Chick-fil-A will open Thursday in Vero Beach.

The new Chick-fil-A is at 1481 U.S. 1 , the former site of Poinsettia Groves , a fruit shipper that opened in 1947.

That property was sold in October 2021 for $1.05 million to Madava Properties US1 LLC, according to Indian River County records. The LLC is registered to Integra Real Estate President Michael Rechter , according to state records.

This will be the second Chick-fil-A location for Vero Beach. The other Chick-fil-A is about 5 miles away on State Road 60 west of 58th Street.

Chick-Fil-A history

Founder S. Truett Cathy opened the first Chick-fil-A in Atlanta in 1967, according to the company website .

The restaurant was the first to pair shopping and eating by opening in an Atlanta-area mall, the website says. It also claims to be the first quick-service restaurant to introduce parent-friendly menus, with fruit cups and a grilled entree.

Today, the national restaurant chain is owned and operated by a lineage of Cathy family members, who choose the owner-operators of each individual location, according to the website.
