    Fellsmere, Indian River Shores, Sebastian and Vero Beach residents now know who is running for their city councils in the Nov. 5 general election.

    Candidate qualifying periods ended noon Friday. Seventeen candidates filed to run for 11 positions across the four communities.

    Fort Pierce City Manager Nick Mimms put on administrative leave with pay day after arrest

    Two lots originally reserved for parking for the Lincoln Theater on Avenue D played a key role in a complex Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation that led to the arrest of Fort Pierce City Manager Nick Mimms, according to recently-released records.

    Arrested Wednesday, Mimms, 51, is accused of rigging a bid and other improper acts that made sure a group, Lincoln Park Young Professionals, got the lease for the lots. Lincoln Park Young Professionals, a nonprofit, was formed by two city employees, one being Mimms’ niece.

    Safety is the No. 1 concern of people traveling along U.S. 1 in northern Martin County

    People feel unsafe along U.S. 1 in northern Martin County, according to polling done by consultants for the Martin Metropolitan Planning Organization, which is studying ways to ease congestion along the corridor.

    Crash data supports that assertion. Crashes have been rising since 2020 — with 218 in 2023 — along the stretch between the south end of the Roosevelt Bridge and the Martin/St. Lucie County line.
