    Voter turnout up in 1 county, but down in 2, compared to 2016 and 2020 primaries

    The Aug. 20 primary election ended with some incumbents being ousted, some highly contested races advancing to the Nov. 5 general election, and a tight race between two political newcomers resulting in a recount.

    More voters turned out in Indian River County, but fewer turned out in Martin and St. Lucie counties, compared to past primaries in 2016 and 2020. Here's how many people voted in the last three primaries on the Treasure Coast.

    Treasure Coast voter turnout

    Indian River County

    • 2024 : 34.2%
    • 2020 : 33.6%
    • 2016 : 31%

    Martin County

    • 2024 : 27.8%
    • 2020 : 34%
    • 2016 : 33%

    St. Lucie County

    • 2024 : 20.55%
    • 2020 : 26%
    • 2016 : 26.3%

    Ballots cast among eligible voters

    Indian River County

    • 2024: 40,477 out of 118,221
    • 2020: 40,452 out of 120,443
    • 2016: 32,245 out of 103,797

    Martin County

    • 2024: 31,755 out of 114,374
    • 2020: 39,332 out of 114,537
    • 2016: 35,852 out of 109,226

    St. Lucie County

    • 2024: 48,438 out of 235,734
    • 2020: 55,834 out of 214,401
    • 2016: 49,644 out of 188,498
