    Editor's note: On Friday, after The Flagler of Stuart decided not to host the DEP public meeting that was scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday, citing "safety concerns," DEP postponed all of the meetings across the state and said it is looking for larger venues "due to the overwhelming interest."     Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound is one of the eight Florida state parks proposed for development, including three golf courses , as part of Gov. Ron DeSantis' Great Outdoors Initiative announced Monday.

    Development would mean clearing huge swaths of native scrub habitat, which could be home to a host of threatened and endangered plants and animals.

    Where is Jonathan Dickinson State Park?

    Jonathan Dickinson State Park spans 10,500 acres in Martin County between Hobe Sound and Tequesta. The entrance is at 16450 S.E. Federal Highway , and is accessible by boat on the Loxahatchee River.
