Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound is one of the eight Florida state parks proposed for development, including three golf courses , as part of Gov. Ron DeSantis' Great Outdoors Initiative announced Monday.

Development would mean clearing huge swaths of native scrub habitat, which could be home to a host of threatened and endangered plants and animals.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park spans 10,500 acres in Martin County between Hobe Sound and Tequesta. The entrance is at 16450 S.E. Federal Highway , and is accessible by boat on the Loxahatchee River.

What is the Great Outdoors Initiative?

The 2024-25 Great Outdoors Initiative proposes golf courses, disc golf courses, pickleball courts and other recreational developments to increase revenue at these eight state parks:
