The recent historic rainstorm and subsequent flooding in southeastern South Dakota triggered memories of our 2007 flood in Aberdeen. Not deploying the National Guard in this 2024 event was a contrast with how important those troops’ efforts were for us in 2007 — and how consequential it was to have them on duty in our community.
