County to save money on generators, apply savings to Road and Bridge
Freestone County Commissioners have been discussing for months using ARPA funds to buy generators for fire stations, warming stations and water companies, but they reached a breakthrough last week when they learned they could fund them from an alternate source much cheaper than through ARPA. That breakthrough came at their Oct. 19 meeting, when they also decided to classify the water companies as sub-recipients of ARPA funds, held a public hearing on the District Clerk’s Archive Fund, and made a variety of decisions on the county’s finances and well-being. Man arrested after traffic stop
On Friday evening, Oct. 14, Freestone County Sheriff Office Lt. Willis and Deputy Darby made a traffic stop in Teague. During the traffic stop investigation, the driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of approximately nine grams of methamphetamine. The subject also had a handgun and was in possession of information belonging to someone else. The subject was arrested for the following: Manufacture/Delivery of Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, more than four grams but less than 200 grams (1st Degree Felony); Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon (3rd Degree Felony); and Fraudulent Use/ Possession of Identifying Information, less then five items (State Jail Felony).
All Hat, No Cattle wins Cookoff at Parkfest
, , There was plenty to do at the annual Parkfest hosted by the Teague Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Eighth Avenue City Park in Teague. There were vendors and food available all day for people in attendance to enjoy. Youngsters enjoyed the rides on the mini train run by the B-RI Museum in Teague. County museum hosts open house for Litttlejohn replica
, An Open House celebration commemorating the completion of the Littlejohn House replica on the campus of the Freestone County Historical Museum was held Saturday, with descendants of the original builder on hand and and a crowd eager to see the finished project. The original house was designed and built in 1908 by inventor Lonnie Littlejohn, who constructed the family home on 300 acres west of the Shanks community. , The Teague volleyball team swept two matches last week to improve its District 20-3A record to 5-6. The Lady Lions were in fifth place in district with three matches remaining as they headed into their match against Groesbeck on Tuesday, Oct. 18. Teague notched a threeset victory at Mexia on Friday, Oct. 14. They raced to a 25-9 win in the opening set. Teague’s varsity girls cross country team and varsity boys’ runner Kooper Kennedy punched their tickets to the region meet by placing high enough at the District 20-3A Meet in Fairfield Monday morning.
