FCSO, Constable arrest two in possession of narcotics
Two subjects are behind bars after their attempt to sell drugs failed. The subjects were taken into custody at the Freestone County Jail after the narcotics were discovered during a search warrant. A trio of Freestone County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Precinct 3 Constable Richard McGowan conducted a narcotics search warrant along FM 80 just south of Kirvin Sunday evening. The search warrant proved to be necessary. More than 60 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales, packaging material and more than $750 were seized along with a vehicle. Two subjects, a male and a female, were arrested and each charged with: Manufacturing/Delivery Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 more then 4 grams less then 200 grams — a 1st Degree Felony.
Hagen shows Grand Champion Commercial Heifers
, The 2nd Annual Freestone County Fair Commercial Heifer contest was held on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 10-11, at the Freestone County Fairgrounds. A steak dinner was held on Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. followed by awards and the sale at 6 p.m. When all was said and done, Rhett Hagen of Teague FFA came away with the Overall Grand Champion banner and Grace Smith of Teague FFA won the Overall Reserve Champion banner. Hagen also won the Champion Cattle award. Keatyn Ovalle of Freestone Community 4-H won Junior Record Book as Hagen won Senior Record Book. Memphis Wren of Fairfield 4-H came out on top with the Junior Test as Smith was the top scorer on the Senior Test. Wren also won the Junior Interview as Hagen won the Senior Interview. The Best in County Pen of Cattle went to Charlie Longron of Fairfield FFA.
COMMISH ESTABLISHES ADVISORY BOARD FOR JOINT DISPATCH
Freestone County Commissioners Court took the final steps to establish an advisory board to oversee the Freestone County Joint Communications Center. The court took these steps at its Monday, Nov. 6 meeting, when the commissioners also approved a contract with the Southern Oaks Volunteer Fire Department and accepted a donation from the Teague Rodeo Association. , , , BELTON - There was a huge sigh of relief breathed from the Teague faithful Friday night. With Zak Leija’s 13yard completion to Braden Gauntt on third-and-10 from the Teague 49-yard line, the Lions were able to run out the clock and claim a 29-27 victory against West at Crusader Stadium in Belton. Lions dominate Eagles in district showdown, advance to playoffs
, The Teague Lions knew what they had to do on Friday night against their rival, the Fairfield Eagles. A win would put the Lions in the playoffs as a loss would end their season. The Lions came out and dominated the Eagles 40-15 to move on to the playoffs. Teague improved to 7-3 on the season and 4-2 in district play. Commissioners to address power outages, connectivity
, Freestone County’s new IT employee Dane McBroom is making recommendations that may solve two of the county’s biggest IT problems, power outages that cut productivity and fixing Internet dead spots in the county. McBroom made his recommendations at Commissioners Court’s Oct. 31 meeting, when the court members also heard about a new brush truck that Wortham may receive, issued a proclamation about a way to honor members of the armed services and made other decisions concerning the county’s finances and well-being. Lions prepare for Trojans
Although the high school football state playoffs start this weekend, the Teague Lions feel as if they’ve been in playoff mode since the last three games. The Lions have won each of their last three contests since dropping a 4723 decision at Mexia a few weeks ago. But Friday night, it’s all or nothing. Railroad Symposium shares stories of railroad’s past
, , , , Several experts on local railroads’ history shared their knowledge at the Tri-County Railroad Symposium that took place Saturday at the Historic Teague Hotel. The symposium was produced and hosted by the historical commissions of Freestone, Limestone and Navarro counties; also the Teague Historical Preservation Society, Tehuacana Heritage Society, the Burlington-Rock Island Railroad Museum and the Teague Public Library. Parkfest goes on without a hitch
, The Teague Chamber of Commerce hosted Parkfest this Saturday, Oct. 28, at the 8th Avenue City Park. There was lots of food and vendors set up all day. A meeting for the BBQ cook-off was held on Friday, Oct. 27, and the 3rd Annual co-ed volleyball tournament took place on Saturday. The 4th Annual Car Show was held and awards will be given out after the judging. The Go-Texan Cornhole Tournament and children’s costume contest were held as well. The contest was hosted by Bi-Stone Rescue. The Outlaws Gunfighting Group conducted a gun fighting performance, and the Edge Dance Company dancers performed.

KEMP - Because of lightning last Friday, it took two days for the Teague football team to complete its contest against Kemp. Two trips across Cedar Creek Lake in two days didn’t bother the Lions too much. Throughout the twoday contest, Teague (6-3, 3-2 in District 8-3A-Division I) dominated Kemp with the final score of 50-0. The game was delayed Friday night after the conclusion of the first half. A financial discipleship journey
First Baptist Church of Donie is offering a Sunday evening Bible study entitled, “A Financial Discipleship Journey.” In this six-week class, the learners will answer the following questions: What is a Disciple? What does finances have to do with Discipleship? And How much is Enough? In addition, the participants will learn how to develop a financial plan for their home and family. Each session begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be held at the First Baptist Church, 309 Worthy St. in Donie. The course is led by Ken Aclin. There is no charge for this class. THS Marching Band earns straight 1’s
The Teague High School Marching Band earned straight 1’s at the Region Marching Contest on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Troy High School. “I’m super proud of my kiddos. They have been prideful, determined, hard-working, and just all-around the best students I could ever ask for,” Band Director Cory Hiles said. “They never cease to stop amazing me every time they take the field. Teague recognizes legacy of former player Hall
R.F. Hall was a fine athlete and even better person when he played for the Teague football team in the early 1960s. Unfortunately, he passed away during his senior year. However, he will be remembered and his legacy will live on. Prior to Teague’s game against Groesbeck on Friday, Oct. 20, Hall, who passed away in 1963, was remembered and his jersey number memorialized. Hall was an end for the Lions and wore No. 88. Solar project tax abatements, reinvestment zones finalized
, , Freestone County Commissioners approved tax abatements for several solar projects at their meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 18; and also established Reinvestment Zones for two of the solar projects. Before approving each tax abatement, the court held a public hearing on the subject; and also left the burn ban off, approved contracts with the county’s two libraries, and made other decisions concerning the county’s finances and well-being. Two arrested on drug charges after traffic stop
On Saturday, Oct. 14, at approximately 9:54 p.m., Teague police officers observed a vehicle disregard a stop sign and stopped the vehicle. During the interview with the driver, the officer became suspicious that he was under the influence of alcohol and requested to step out of the vehicle. Two bottles of beer fell out of the vehicle, one opened and one unopened, as the driver opened the vehicle. The officer searched the vehicle for more alcohol. The officer found another beer bottle, a glass drug pipe, and a bag of cocaine. The cocaine weighed in at 12.27 grams (bag and all). Further search of the vehicle revealed the officer found a carry out bag of food, which contained approximately four tacos. The driver and his passenger were arrested and booked into the Freestone County Jail for Possession of a Controlled Substance 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams – a 2nd Degree Felony. With all the facts combined this case is affectionately being referred to as the “Saturday Night Party Pack.”
