After an 0-2 start, the Teague softball team has won nine of its last 10 games to begin the 2024 campaign with a 9-3 record.

The Lady Lions also have a new head coach this season in Tre Craig. This is Craig’s first year as a head coach in softball as well.

After losses of 7-4 at Class 5A Corsicana in the season opener and 1-0 to Blooming Grove in the first game of the Hillsboro Tournament, Teague began an eight-game winning streak. The Lady Lions won their final three games of the Hillsboro Tournament against Hillsboro, 12-0, Mexia, 15-1, and La Vega, 3-1.

In the La Vega win, Teague was actually no-hit and scored all of its runs off of walks and errors. The Lady Lions also were nohit in the loss to Blooming Grove.

The final day of the Hillsboro Tournament, Feb. 17, was canceled because of weather. This only provided fuel for the fire for Teague.

The Lady Lions continued their winning ways with a 10-2 victory against Valley Mills in the home opener. Teague benefitted from multi-hit outings from Kaylee Cuevas (2-2, 2 BB, 2 RBI), Andrea James (2-3, HR, 2 RBI), Keely Mathis (2-4, 2B) and Cate Satterwhite (2-4, 2 RBI).

The Lady Lions continued their mastery of the diamond with wins against 6A Keller Fossil Ridge, 6-5, Dallas Life Oak Cliff, 16-0, Ferris, 7-0, and Waxahachie Life School, 3-2, in the Ferris Tournament Feb. 22-24. James and Cuevas pitched no-hitters against Life Oak Cliff and Ferris, respectively.

Teague’s eight-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday with a 14-0 loss to Palmer in the tournament championship. The Lady Lions committed seven errors in the loss.

Teague returned home on Tuesday and defeated Dawson, 2-0. Cuevas pitched her second no-hitter of the season.
