The Teague baseball team split its games last week.

The Lions suffered a 10-4 setback at Westwood last Friday, and beat Buffalo, 8-4, last Thursday in Madisonville. As a result, Teague (10-12-1, 5-6 in District 20-3A) remains in the playoff hunt.

The Lions hosted Franklin on Tuesday. Teague visits Elkhart on Friday and closes out the regular season at home against Fairfield on Tuesday.

    WESTWOOD 10, TEAGUE 4

A five-run flurry in the bottom of the third inning helped the Panthers hold off the Lions, 10-4, last Friday. Westwood also out-hit Teague, 4-2, in a contest that featured five errors committed by both teams.

After falling behind 2-0 after one inning of play, the Lions used an RBI double from Zach Dawson in the top of the second to trim their deficit in half, 2-1. Teague then used a trio of errors in the top of the third to seize a 3-2 lead.

The Panthers bounced back in the bottom of the third, however. Westwood used three hit batsmen, a pair of walks and two hits to score five runs and build a 7-3 lead that would not be relinquished.

The Lions scored once more in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice from Caden Gonzales. The Panthers put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Dawson (1-3, 2B, RBI) and Kade Kormos (1-3) had the only hits for Teague.

    TEAGUE 8, BUFFALO 4

Four different players recorded multiple hits in the Lions’ 8-4 victory against Buffalo last Thursday in Madisonville. The game was moved from Teague to Madisonville because of rain conditions in Teague and Madisonville has artificial turf.

The Bison used a hit batsman, a single and an error to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. But Teague got things going in the bottom of the third.

The Lions used RBI singles from Mario Cuevas and Bo Bowers, a pair of walks and two errors to seize a 3-2 lead after three frames.

Buffalo regained a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth off of two Teague errors. But Kormos hit a two-run double and Barrett Maggard recorded an RBI single to put the Lions back on top, 6-4, after four complete innings.

Teague scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as well. The Lions used an error and a sacrifice fly from Gonzales to plate their last two scores.

Cuevas (3-4, RBI) led Teague at the plate, while Bowers (2-3, HBP, RBI), Kormos (2-3, SAC, 2B, 2 RBI) and Tripp Egbert (2-4) also had multiple hits.

Gonzales (1-3, SAC, 2 RBI), Barrett Maggard (1-3, BB, RBI) and Blake Maggard (1-3, BB) also contributed.

Bowers also earned the win on the mound. He surrendered four runs on three hits and struck out three in a complete game performance.

The Lions also survived eight errors.
