After nearly two hours in executive session covering five different matters, Gay Pranger was named the City of Teague City Secretary/Office Manager on Monday night, May 20, at the monthly City of Teague Board of Aldermen meeting.

Pranger comes to Teague after serving as the City of Coolidge’s City Secretary for the past 15 years. The board approved paying Pranger a yearly salary of $60,000.

“I am very excited. It will be a new beginning for me,” Pranger said following the meeting on Monday night. “I will be moving from a Type B City to a Type A City. However, I am never too old to learn more.”

Pranger will be replacing Theresa Bell who was terminated last July due to “lack of confidence” after being placed on administrative leave for four months by David Huffman, who served as the Mayor at that time.

Judy Keally served as an Interim City Secretary for six months, April 2023-September 2023. Chief of Police Dwayne Philpott has filled in as the Interim City Secretary since September.

Bell was being paid a yearly salary of $95,235 to serve as the City of Teague City Administrator and City Secretary. The City Secretary and City Administrator jobs have since been split.

The City Administrator position is still open at this time.

The board reassigned Jason Fisk, Animal Control/Code Enforcement, back to the police department. Former Mayor David Huffman had Fisk listed under him.

The board took no action on an employment matter, duties of department heads, and the Sue Lesley property located at 103 Wildflower Lane.

Monika Howard was appointed again the Teague Municipal Court Judge under new Mayor James Monks.

The board approved Ordinance 2024-05-20-A Outdoor Burning.

The board also proved for Philpott to set up auction services to surplus city property and vehicles.

“We have multiple vehicles and equipment just sitting there,” Monks said. “We can sell it and put that money back in the general fund.”

Philpott agreed to start the process and Pranger will assist him as well.

Shanna Lords requested a variance to build a 900-1,000 square foot home for her and her son. The board tabled the matter until next week so they can look at ordinances and see what needs to be done. Currently, homes must be at least 1,200 square feet.

Teague EDC President Stephanice Burns reported that the new Teague Senior, LLC was coming along well. The project on Hwy 84 is coming along quickly and will be ready later this year.

Applications are currently being passed out to those who are at least 55 years old. A one bedroom home is $650/ month and a two bedroom home is $795/month.

The meeting adjourned at 8:37 p.m.
