Boar's Head Provisions Co., a well-known manufacturer of high-quality meat and poultry products, has announced an expansion of its recall on ready-to-eat (RTE) meat and poultry items due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall was initially triggered by concerns raised during routine testing and has now been broadened to include additional products and production dates.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) released an official statement on the recall, emphasizing the seriousness of the contamination. Listeria monocytogenes is a harmful bacterium that can cause listeriosis, a severe infection particularly dangerous to pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

The expanded recall includes a variety of Boar's Head products such as ham, turkey, chicken, and other deli meats, sold under the Boar’s Head and Old Country names. The products were distributed nationwide to retail locations and institutions. Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators and freezers for Boar’s Head and Old Country products.

A comprehensive list of the affected products, including specific production dates and lot numbers, is available on the FSIS website. Labels of the affected products are also available here.

Boar's Head Provisions Co. is cooperating fully with the FSIS and has taken immediate steps to remove the affected products from the market. Consumers who have purchased these products are advised not to consume them and to either discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

Symptoms of listeriosis can include fever, muscle aches, headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. Those experiencing these symptoms after consuming the recalled products should seek medical attention promptly.

For more information, consumers can visit the FSIS website for ongoing updates.

This recall highlights the importance of food safety and the vigilance required to protect public health. Boar's Head Provisions Co. remains committed to the highest standards of quality and safety in its products.
