Mecklenburg County DA’s Violent Crimes Team Convicts 10 in July Trial Session

Charlotte, N.C. – The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Violent Crimes Team announced they have successfully convicted 10 defendants during their trial session held from July 15 to July 19, 2024. The trials took place in courtrooms 5110, 5150, 5170, and 5370, overseen by Superior Court Judges Carla N. Archie, Donald R. Cureton Jr., Jacqueline D. Grant, and David H. Strickland. One matter was heard before Superior Court Judge Reggie E. McKnight.
Of the ten defendants, four were tried, resulting in two convictions, while the remaining eight entered guilty pleas.
Trial Convictions:
Daviyon Reid, 20, was convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon. Judge Strickland sentenced Reid to 51-74 months in prison.
Jh’ane McMillan, 25, was found guilty of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. Judge Grant imposed a suspended sentence of 23-40 months, contingent on McMillan completing 36 months of supervised probation.
Other trial outcomes included:
Izreal Johnson, 20, was acquitted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon but found guilty of resisting a public officer. Johnson received a suspended 45-day jail sentence, with 12 months of supervised probation.
Ryhan Hankins, 25, was acquitted of possession of a firearm on educational property.
Guilty Pleas and Sentences:
Kaivon Belton, 20, pled guilty to six counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. Judge Strickland sentenced him to 80-120 months in prison.
Tyree Knight, 20, pled guilty to discharging a firearm into occupied property and larceny from the person. Knight received a suspended 20-36 month prison sentence with 36 months of supervised probation and 20 days in jail.
Jordan Johnson, 22, pled guilty to assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and robbery with a dangerous weapon, resulting in a 51-74 month prison sentence from Judge Strickland.
Tavion Wells, 26, pled guilty to robbery with a dangerous weapon and four counts of assault by pointing a gun. Judge Archie sentenced Wells to 54-77 months in prison.
Herbert Stanback, 68, pled guilty to felony hit and run resulting in injury or death, receiving a two-year prison sentence from Judge Archie.
Marquel Parker, 25, pled guilty to conspiracy to commit discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle in operation. Judge McKnight imposed a suspended 20-36 month prison sentence with 24 months of supervised probation.
Justin Johnson, 20, pled guilty to discharging a firearm into occupied property and possession of a weapon of mass destruction. Judge Grant sentenced Johnson to a suspended 31-50 month prison term with 36 months of supervised probation, seven months in prison, and six months of house arrest.
Larry Bethea, 44, pled guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a concealed gun. Bethea received a suspended 13-25 month prison sentence with 30 months of supervised probation from Judge Grant.
