    Orchard Fire burns over 800 acres in Tehachapi, evacuation warnings lifted

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Evacuation warnings were cancelled Thursday morning, but the Orchard Fire continues and has burned approximately 830 acres in Tehachapi, the Kern County Fire Department said.

    Firefighters were called to the fire on July 3 near Tehachapi Willow Springs and Highline roads at around 2:15 p.m. The fire was being called the Orchard Fire.

    The fire has burned approximately 830 acres and was at 35% containment, officials said Thursday.

    On Thursday, officials described the fire fight saying strong afternoon winds moved the fire toward Highline Road spreading flames further and threatened homes prompting the evacuation warnings and orders.

    Kern County Fire officials said firefighters were able to save several homes and infrastructure and kept flames away from the Mountain Meadows community. Fire crews worked overnight to put out hotspots.

    No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
