Park Fire map: Wildfire near Chico explodes overnight to season’s biggest
A wildfire that started Wednesday afternoon on the edge of Chico grew in barely 12 hours to the largest fire of California’s season. The Park Fire was reported shortly before 3 p.m. in Upper Bidwell Park, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said. Early Thursday, its size was estimated at 45,549 acres (71 square miles).

RED BLUFF — The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office was in Manton Tuesday to look for the final resting place of one of serial killer Gerald Frank Stanley’s victims. In 1983, Stanley was convicted by a Butte County Jury for fatally shooting his fourth wife in Nice in 1980. Five years prior, he had killed his second spouse and was on parole for that incident.
