Week 1 Pick 'Em! Reviving the weekly picks, hopeful of a strong start

    BUCYRUS — It's back!

After a year off, I've decided to revive the Pick 'Em this season. But it'll just be me … mostly because that way I can't lose to Jake Furr for the fifth consecutive time.

So without further ado, let's get to picking!

Football Preview | Lots to be excited about this season on the gridiron in Crawford County

    Wynford at Galion

This is going to be one heck of a game between two stellar programs full of athleticism. One of two county clashes onn opening weekend, I think Galion edges out Wynford in front of the home crowd. Both teams lost some key players, but I think the Tigers have the advantage early in the season with Braxton Prosser under center. He still has a ton of talent to throw to, while the Royals are breaking in a new quarterback in Landon Miller.

    River at Colonel Crawford

This wound up being one of the best games in the state last season in Week 1 with the Eagles trekking down to Hannibal and coming back with a gritty 21-20 win. River is huge at almost every position, which means there will likely be some big hits in this one. But I think Colonel Crawford's athleticism will be the difference here. And, it's not easy beating the Eagles at home.

    Crestline at Buckeye Central

This might be the biggest unknown of the weekend. Both teams have new coaches, both have new quarterbacks, both have a ton of new faces in key positions. The Bucks have dominated this county rivalry in recent history, but I think that ends this season. Crestline has better numbers than yesteryear and some exciting talent back. I think even on the road, they make this one interesting — but I'm rolling BC with the win.

    Riverdale at Bucyrus

Year 2 of a home-and-away series with the Falcons who won last season 53-8. I don't know how much Riverdale is returning, but I do know Bucyrus has a quarterback with zero career attempts and some young talent in skill positions and on the line. I think it's a little more competitive than when they last met, but I need to see what this Bucyrus team is capable of first.
