Crawford County Football Rewind | Week 2

    By Zachary Holden, Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum,

BUCYRUS - Week 2 of the high school football season is in the books and we saw a handful of terrific performances.

Two teams remain undefeated, one is sitting at .500 and the remaining three are still seeking their first win of the season.

Let's take a look at this week's Football Rewind.

    Best performance(s)

Two players share top honors this week, one in a win and one in a loss.

Galion's Allen Carver laid out in the end zone for what would go on to be the game-winning touchdown in the third quarter. He hauled in three receptions for 40 yards including the 23-yard score, along with making both extra points.

Bucyrus' Demaris Munn-Page logged 21 carries for 161 yards and a touchdown, returned a kickoff 82 yards for another score, and caught a pass for 10 yards.

    Other notable performances:

Colonel Crawford's Roen Thew rushed in a pair of touchdowns and Lucas Foy caught a pair of touchdowns in the Eagles' big win over Richmond Heights.

Crestline's Kody Lawhorn threw a pair of touchdowns against in the Bulldogs' first loss of the season. It came against Waynesfield-Goshen who won its 24th consecutive regular season game.

    Surprises

The biggest surprise to me was Galion's defense. We saw the offense, loaded with athleticism, explode in Week 1 against Wynford. But the Tigers lost a ton on defense and weren't nearly as big as they were a year ago. That didn't matter as the new faces made play after play against a bruising Carey running game. This team might be sneaky in the MOAC and compete with the top dogs.

The second was how close Bucyrus was to a win for the second consecutive week. Getting more winnable games on the schedule in nonleague play was important and that's exactly what the Redmen did. They may be winless, but it was only by a touchdown both times whereas last season they were outscored by a 120-14 margin at this point. Things are looking up in Bucyrus.
