    Galion City Schools ready to connect with alumni and the community

    The Galion community is gearing up for the annual Connections Weekend.

    The effort brings together Galion City Schools, Galion Alumni Association, Galion Community Education Foundation, Galion Tiger Alumni Band and Galion Community Foundation for a weekend of celebration, learning and connection.

    Connections Weekend, scheduled for Oct. 11-12, is a tribute to Galion’s alumni and offers an educational experience for students. It's filled with activities for the entire community.

    Schedule of events for Connections Weekend

    Thursday Bonfire: Celebrate Galion’s fall sports teams and meet the 2024 Homecoming court. Gather at Unckrich Stadium at 6:45 p.m. for brief introductions and then follow the Alumni Band to the bonfire at the practice field.

    Friday Career Day: Community members and alumni will visit Galion Middle School to give presentations about their careers. Students will select and attend career presentations based on their interests.

    Friday night football: The Galion Tigers will take on the Marion Pleasant Spartans at 7 p.m. at Unckrich Stadium. The king and queen will be crowned during halftime. The 2024 Homecoming court members are Jillian Capretta, Audrey Glew, Carlee Pennington, Madelyn Schieber, Cameron Eckert, Maxwell Albert, Braxton Prosser, Nathan McMullen, Quinn Miller and Jaxon Rinehart. Tickets to the game may be purchased online or at the gate.

    Saturday Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast: High School Student Council, choir members and elementary music students will be on hand to serve and entertain during breakfast at Galion Intermediate School 8-10:30 a.m.

    Hall of Fame Induction Dinner: Five alumni who have made a lasting impact in and beyond the community will be inducted into Galion’s Hall of Fame. Dinner will be at Galion Middle School at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at Galion City Schools administrative office. Inductees are Stuart Auld, class of 1971; Lawrence Michele, class of 1984; Theresa Michele, class of 1985, Christina Walker, class of 1994; and Fred McCumber, staff member.

    Saturday Homecoming dance: The Paris-themed dance begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are required and may be purchased on the Galion City Schools website .
