NORTH ROBINSON - Jake Bruner felt like senior Aden Spence was destined to have an All-Ohio season at tackle for Colonel Crawford this fall.

But nobody envisioned his season ending in Week 1.

Against River High School, Spence suffered a knee injury that would later be diagnosed as a torn ACL, tear in both meniscuses, and cartilage damage — ouch.

"It has been hard missing your senior year," he said. "But I'm just trying to get my guys pumped up to try and get the win."

Coming into the season as a leader on the field, Spence saw his role shift dramatically.

"Last year and in the offseason, I was more of a leader on the field in the weight room, everything," he said. "I'm still there, still pumping them up, it's just more vocal now."

Last week in a must-win game at Seneca East to keep league title hopes alive, Spence was one of the loudest on the sideline cheering his teammates on in what ended up being a thrilling 21-20 win .

"But tonight was a big night for us," Spence said after the game. "Getting our confidence back, getting our swagger back, especially right before Carey."

And while there’s only a handful of weeks left donning the black and gold, being a part of this program after everything it has been through is something he'll never forget.

"It means the world to be an Eagle," Spence said. "We have the best best family around here. We're all like brothers, no one hates each other. Everyone was loving and I got so much support when I got injured.

"It's just amazing to be here."
