Brandon Gobrecht has been selected to be the full-time Bucyrus law director.

He will serve out the remainder of the term earned by Brian Gernert, the city's former attorney , according to John Volk, chair of the Crawford County Republican Central Committee.

Gernert, a Republican, resigned last month, telling the public it was "necessary to address my alcoholism."

City officials made Gobrecht the interim law director on Aug. 23 while Gernert was in Glenbeigh Hospital in Rock Creek for inpatient treatment.

Now that the county's Republican Central Committee has appointed Gobrecht to the position, he is the permanent law director.

As of Monday afternoon, Gobrecht needed only to sign a document to complete the process, according to Leeann Grau, deputy director of the Crawford County Board of Elections.

    Gobrecht's term will expire Dec. 31, 2025.

Should he want to run for reelection as a Republican, his name will need to appear on ballots during the 2025 May primary.
