The Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) previously told News Channel 11 that the crash occurred at Kite Field during the event. The pilot was flown to a nearby hospital and the passenger was taken by ground EMS after the crash, the WCSO reports.

Honor Flight of the Appalachian Highlands stated in a social media post Saturday that the crash did occur “but all spectators are safe and we are being told the pilot and passenger are ok.”

The non-profit stated in a second social media post on Sunday afternoon that after being reached out to several times, Honor Flight was unable to obtain any further information. Honor Flight stated a first responder had said the pilot and passenger were “injured but ok.”

On Monday, the FAA released its first incident report on the plane crash. The FAA reports one member of the flight crew and one passenger were seriously injured in the crash.

In the description of the crash, the FAA wrote the following:

“AIRCRAFT CRASHED IN THE WOODS FOR UNKNOWN REASONS, JONESBOROUGH, TN.”

The WCSO reported on Monday that witnesses said the plane approached the south side of the runway before gaining altitude and twisting left, ultimately crashing into trees east of the runway.

The sheriff’s office stated both the pilot and passenger were extricated by Washington County EMS and Sulphur Springs and Limestone Fire Departments.

According to the FAA, the crashed plane was a Cessna 182 model.

Honor Flight organizers told News Channel 11 on Saturday that the community event continued as normal after the crash.
