WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Telford man was arrested after police found an elderly woman in his care living in “deplorable conditions,” police report.

The Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) reports deputies responded to a home on Al Sliger Road in Telford after receiving an anonymous phone call requesting a welfare check on a 77-year-old woman.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the woman’s caretaker, Robert M. Dyer, 57, who lived at the address.

Deputies then spoke with the woman who was reportedly living in deplorable conditions.

“The woman was visibly underweight and was lying in a bed covered with feces and urine,” the WCSO said in a news release. “Evidence on the scene suggested that the woman had been living in these conditions for a substantial amount of time.”

The woman was then taken to a local hospital for treatment. As of Monday, she was in stable condition, according to the WCSO.

Dyer was charged with aggravated abuse/neglect of an elderly or vulnerable adult. He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.

Dyer is set to appear in court on Monday.
