TELL CITY, Ind. (WEHT) -For the past 22 years, cyclists all over Indiana have dedicated 13 days to ride across the state to honor law enforcement.
This year the organization stopped in Tell City, home to fallen Sgt. Heather Glenn who was killed in the line of duty last year.
Several law enforcement officers and community members visited the gravesite or lined up as cyclists passed through downtown.
Cyclists gathered around Sgt. Glenn’s gravesite, learning about the character of the woman who served Tell City.
Tell City Chief of Police, Derrick Lawain says this is a first for the organization to make a stop in Tell City.
Chief Lawain says, “I think that’s representative of Sgt. Heather Glenn. She was a hometown girl here and she chose here to serve of all places. A career that’s madden for police officers, she picked her own community right here to serve. So, when she followed her father’s footsteps and everyone knew her and everyone knew her heart.”
This marks the 23 rd Annual Cops Cycling for Survivors Bicycle ride around Indiana.
Support truck driver for the organization, Mike Kellems says, “They come from all walks of life and they do it because they have a passion for this. They do it because they want to recognize the service and sacrifice for our police officers and they want their families to know their surviving family members, the surviving police officers to know we’re never going to forget that sacrifice.”
Cyclists will continue their journey tomorrow to Jeffersonville.
