Tellico Plains was one win away from returning to the region tournament for the first time in three seasons, but the Lady Bears’ season came to a halt on May 7 losing 8-0 to No. 2 Kingston in a District 3-2A elimination semifinal.

For Tellico (17-8), the bout marked the third time the two have met in May, splitting the two previous meetings. Kingston jumped out on the front foot, pushing two runs across in the bottom of the first and taking a 5-0 lead after four innings.

Kadence Moses pitched six innings for Tellico, striking out two batters and walking four. Kingston’s first hit of the game scored the opening run.

With batters on second and first after being hit by pitches, Sailor Presley’s single scored before a double made it 2-0 Kingston.

The Lady Yellow Jackets were held to three hits through the first three innings and took a 5-0 lead with only four hits.

The sixth and seventh hits for Kingston came in the bottom of the sixth, where the Lady Yellow Jackets found three runs.

Meredith Linder flagged down a pop fly in left field before getting the third out at first base to turn a double play and escape the fifth inning with no more runs allowed.

Tellico tallied only three hits in the time that Kingston went ahead 5-0. Moses singled with one out in the first inning to move Bella Wright to first base.

The Lady Bears loaded the bases with an error at second base, but consecutive strikeouts ended the inning scoreless.

Wright singled in the top of the third but was caught stealing in the next at-bat.

Meya Keener reached base with a two-out single in the next inning before Presley’s seventh strikeout of 13 ended the threat.

Taylor Rose doubled to start an attempted rally in the seventh inning. Wright’s no-out single moved Rose to third.

Kalli Yates-Matoy loaded the bases on a dropped third strike with one out. The Lady Bears' momentum was silenced through a popout before Presley recorded a strikeout to end the night.

Tellico Plains rostered one senior: Aubriana Lewis.

Due to weather and Kingston’s graduation, Meigs County was named the District 3-2A champions while Kingston was runner-up.

The Lady Bears won five more games in 2024 than the prior season.
