Tellico Plains is sending two more runners back to the Class A state championship.

Darrah Wiseman — a four-time state champion — is joined by senior Nicholas Hawk who will be competing in at least one event at the state meet as well as in next week’s Class A state decathlon.

Wiseman won in the 800m and 1600m runs while Hawk’s second place finish in the 110m hurdle earned a berth at the state meet.

Hawk also competed in the 300m hurdle, placing third with the chance of qualifying for the state meet as an at-large bid.

Wiseman finished with a time of 2:30.53 in the 800m hurdle at Eagleton College and Career Academy in Blount County, three seconds clear of second place finisher Eagleton’s Anastasia Duke.

In the 1600m, Wiseman’s time of 5:33.67 left her two seconds clear of second place finisher Emma Johnson from University School in Johnson City.

Hawk placed second in the 110m hurdle with a time of 15.99, .21 seconds behind winner Logan Hargis from South Pittsburg and in front of Brainerd’s Alexander Powell’s 16.13.

Finishing at 42.52, Hawk placed third in the 300m hurdle. His finish was .13 seconds behind runner-up Isaiah Sawyer of Tyner Academy and behind winner Hargis’s 40.07.

    Two trips in one year

Hawk will compete in the Class A State Decathlon on May 15 and 16 at Dean Hayes Stadium on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

Day one’s events will feature the 100m run, triple jump, discus throw, pole vault and 400m. Day two includes the 110m high hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 1500m.

Hawk qualified as the second out of the East region behind South Greene’s Dion Blair. Five of the six wildcard qualifiers are from the East region.
