Bobby White was proud of what he saw from his team in a five-way 7-on-7 on June 18.

Tellico Plains traveled to McMinn County High School to compete with the hosts, Meigs County, Rhea County, Sweetwater and Walker Valley.

“We showed a competitive spirit and I was proud of the guys for the way they worked and the way they competed,” Tellico coach Bobby White said.

Bears’ senior Omar Miller directed traffic at the quarterback position. Miller has appeared in the role over the past three seasons and offers experience this summer.

“Starting with the quarterback position with Omar, we wanted to go through his progressions and his reads and seeing the field against some defenses we have not seen this summer,” White said. “He did a really good job of finding the open receivers, getting his reads and making plays. Also, looking for the receivers to get open and make big catches — we had a lot of those against good competition.”

Miller connected passes with several receivers on the night.

“I felt like he gave us leadership first and foremost. You could tell the experience that he has had up to this point has got him ready for his senior year,” White said. “He was poised, cool, calm, collected and made a lot of good throws yesterday.

“He did just fine (reading different defenses). We have faced a lot of different types of defenses, so he has seen a lot and I think that experience has paid off for him.”

Returning transfer Bradyn Enterline and senior Braden Reed led the receivers along with junior Ike Hollinghead.

Adam Holley scored out of the tight end position while Ryan Shaffer found the endzone out of a pass in the backfield. Jessee Winger made some solid plays for the Bears as well.

“To continue to be consistent in their work effort and continue to get better every single day to carry that over to the end of the season,” White said.

Defensively, Tellico competed across the night. The Bears are running the same defensive scheme as a year ago after changing around in the past.

“Defensively, we did a pretty good job of keeping everything locked up as well. When our starting defense was out there, we did a pretty good job and didn’t have too many busts,” White added. “They did a great job of communicating and switching off in coverage when they needed to. They did a good job of locking their guys up — even from the linebacker position.

“Being in the second year of this defensive scheme has really helped us out as well.”
