DENVER ( KDVR ) — The historic Tomboy mine near Telluride was vandalized , and the sheriff’s office is offering a reward for information on the person who did it.

On Monday, the San Miguel Sheriff’s Office posted a photo of the vandalism on social media.

According to Telluride, Tomboy was a former mining town that housed 1,000 residents at its peak. Eventually, the ore ran out and the mine closed in 1927, leaving the town to ghosts. The mine is located a few thousand feet above Telluride along Imogene Pass.

Even though the Tomboy mine has long been abandoned, the sheriff’s office is calling out the person who chose to deface and spray paint the piece of Colorado history with some choice words.

The sheriff’s office said they are looking for the “punk-a– clown” who did this.

The San Miguel County sheriff master is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible. Anyone with information can call dispatch at 970-728-1911. Tipsters may also remain anonymous and still be eligible for the reward.
