A weekend water line failure at Arizona State University’s Tempe campus led to basement flooding, impacting cooling capabilities in several campus buildings.

Early May 18, a campus water line failure caused basement flooding at the university’s Central Plant Facility, which “operates essential pumps that distribute cool water, crucial for supporting the air conditioning systems across campus buildings,” according to an ASU spokesperson.

“Facilities technicians are actively resolving the issue to ensure optimal cooling for key buildings until all the pumps are fully operational,” ASU stated. “Meanwhile, to prioritize the safety and comfort of our community, all in-person classes on the Tempe campus will be conducted remotely until further notice."

According to an ASU community announcement, the following buildings are not affected: University Services, the Fulton Center, University Center A, B and C, along with the ASU Police building.

The announcement noted employees whose presence is necessary for university operations should work on campus.
