As part of Tempe’s Citywide Fiber Initiative, the city will begin offering a Fiber License and Right-of-Way Use Agreement to internet service providers.

The license will allow providers access to the city’s right-of-way for the purpose of building out networks to increase access to internet services within Tempe, subject to various terms and conditions, a city release explained.

City staff have prepared a template license agreement that will be taken to city council on June 27.

The city is seeking feedback on the license agreement and its terms, according to the release. Staff will be accepting written feedback on the license agreement until Friday, June 7, and will host a virtual meeting session at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5.

Tempe is also providing projected maps of its anticipated Pavement Quality Acceleration project, as the pavement quality work may affect licensees’ access to the right-of-way in certain areas during the course of the project, the released explained.

Additional details are contained within the license agreement. These pavement maps and schedules are meant for the sole purpose of city of Tempe planning efforts.

Some of these projects are contingent on funding that will be decided as part of the bond election scheduled for November 2024.

The city reserves the right in its sole discretion to amend these maps and schedules at any time for any reason, including, but not limited to, the outcomes of the bond election, the release stated.
