A piece of public art in Tempe is getting restored.

The piece, “A Dream of Tempe” at Mitchell Park along South McKemy Street south of West Ninth Street, recently was upgraded with new ceramic tiles, thanks to artist Rebecca Ross.

Art in public spaces is susceptible to weathering and damage because of the outdoor settings, but the city has local artists and fabricators who assist with maintenance so that these pieces are enjoyable for years to come, a city release explained.

This artwork is a standpipe wrapped in a mosaic of handmade tiles depicting the natural landscape of Tempe.

It was originally installed in 2015 and made possible by a group of artists including Patricia Konomos, Eric Iwersen, Josh Meibos, Rebecca Ross and Rochelle Begay, according to the release.
