Tempe City Councilmember Arlene Chin stopped by a recent meeting of the Tempe Needlewielders, a nonprofit group at the Pyle Adult Recreation Center that’s making an impact on local organizations.

Tempe Needlwielders meets twice a week to make items for donation to local hospitals and charities, and Councilmember Chin dropped in at a meeting to find out what the group is all about, trying her hand at a stitch or two, according to a city release.

Watch a video here documenting her visit.

For those interested, the Needlewielders are an energetic and creative group of 80-100 members, ages 50 and better, the release stated. Sewing, crocheting and knitting are all welcome.

Meetings are held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pyle Adult Recreation Center.

The group happily accepts donations from the community including baby yarn, acrylic yarn, 100% cotton yarn, elastic, polyester, stuffing and batting, crochet hooks and scissors.

The Needlewielders collectively volunteered more than 47,000 hours in 2023 and recently earned the City of Tempe's World of Difference Award, according to the release. They have called Pyle home since 1979.
