The upcoming elections for the Maricopa County Community College District governing board have been canceled according to the Maricopa County Elections Department.

All four incumbent board members were reelected after running unopposed, eliminating the need for a public vote, a press release explained.

MCCCD’s governing board has seven seats, including five elected positions from geographical districts within Maricopa County and two at-large positions representing the entire county. Board members serve staggered four-year terms.

The four re-elected board members are Susan Bitter Smith of District 2, Tom Nerini of District 5, Jacqueline Smith of District 1 and Linda Thor, at-large.

Board President Bitter Smith said in the release that the board is thrilled to continue serving the district’s students, faculty and staff, providing them with the necessary resources for succeeding in higher education

“Our governing board members, together, have worked through a global pandemic while simultaneously creating groundbreaking workforce development programs and offering the first ever baccalaureate degrees for our students,” Bitter Smith said.

Bitter Smith added that the reelected board members are honored to continue building on their success.

As a provider of workforce development training, MCCCD offers over 600 certificate and degree programs, including eight bachelor’s degrees, the release noted. Learn more at maricopa.edu.
