Temple pride host a community block party

Temple, TX ( FOX 44 ) — Temple Pride is a big event where people from the community can come out celebrate, enjoy themselves and be themselves at no cost.

Today’s celebrations featured live music, free food, games, shopping, and Kona ice with the help of their sponsors—rock Rose Foundation, Planned Parenthood, Under My Skin, and more! Without them, this free event wouldn’t have been put on for the community.

“We did one last year, which we had a very good turnout, over two hundred and fifty people were in attendance. This year we’re hoping to have that or more, and that’s why we chose to do it at the park,” says Jessie Castro founder and president of Temple Pride.

There were also various booths with great jewelry, food, games, and a face-painting station.

Castro says he wants to continue to put on events throughout the year, not just in June for Pride Month. He would love to see more people at each event!

“I just want everybody to know there’s always going to be safe and brave spaces here in the temple for them,” says Castro.

Temple Pride’s ultimate goal is to be the face of the community because as Jessie says…they are part of the community.

“Ultimate goal is to have a lgbtqia community center so that people can do arts and crafts, we can do theater, we can teach people woodworking and stuff like that,” says Castro.
