New Templeton superintendent outlines district goals

Dr. Edd Bond taking the lead at Templeton schools

– The new Templeton Unified School District (TUSD) superintendent, Dr. Edd Bond, was confirmed in the position this May and will officially begin his duties in August. Bond has worked in the public education field for 28 years; his primary goals for TUSD include supporting students and faculty in both academic and personal aspects.

“First, I want to say that I am fortunate to find myself in a district where many things are going well. My first goal is to get to know the staff and community of [TUSD]. It is a unique place with tremendous tradition. My second goal is to begin the process of ensuring that Templeton is meeting the academic and social emotional needs of all of its students. My third goal is to work with staff and the community to get the word out about all of the amazing things happening in [TUSD],” said Bond, whose previous job position was deputy superintendent for the Santa Paula Unified School District.

Some of Bond’s academic qualifications include degrees in business administration from CSU Long Beach and educational administration from CSU Dominguez Hills, along with a Doctor of Education in educational leadership from the University of Southern California. Professionally, Bond worked as an elementary school teacher for nine years. His time with the Compton Unified School District was as a teacher and administrator for 16 years and he has served as an administrator in other districts, such as Santa Paula and Oxnard, for over 11 years; Bond notes that “at the district level, I have been responsible for human resources, professional development, and student support services.”

Bond also served in the U.S. Army for six years in various locations, including South Carolina, Georgia, and Germany; he worked on a NATO weapons site providing security.

“I think the most important thing that I would like the community to know about me is that I am passionate about serving students and the community. In addition to my public education career, I have been a youth sports coach and have been deeply involved in communities where I work and live…I have also been involved in community service through volunteer work,” said Bond, who has served on the Parks and Recreation Commission in Santa Paula and the Economic Development Commission in Long Beach.

The process of applying for the TUSD superintendent role included an interview with the TUSD Board of Trustees, a visit to the Santa Paula Unified School District for further recommendations, and a Templeton community meeting.

“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to lead an amazing district like [TUSD]. I am looking forward to getting the year started next month,” Bond said.
