A fire, apparently caused by a downed tree, led to the evacuation of a home in Tenafly on Saturday, July 6. No one was hurt.

"It was caused by a large branch of the tree," said Lt. Paul Liautaud of the Tenafly Police Department. "Not sure what sparked the fire, but obviously something got interrupted inside the house."

Police dispatch received a report of the fire at 8:52 a.m.

Early reports stated that people were trapped inside the house at Jefferson Avenue near the Cresskill border, but all residents had left the home when the police arrived.

The fire was quickly brought under control by members of the Tenafly, Englewood, Demarest, Dumont, Cresskill, Box 54 and Bergenfield fire departments.

A section of the second floor collapsed, police said.

No civilians or emergency responders were injured.

The downed tree also caused damage to a neighboring home.
