The contest celebrates and honors excellence in all areas of journalism, including reporting, writing and photography. This year marks only the second year the Lookout — the first digital publication admitted for membership — has been eligible to be nominated for awards.

Winners were selected from 1,060 nominations from 71 of the TPA’s 131 members and were judged by journalists from the New York Press Association.

Earlier in the month, the Lookout received two Green Eyeshade Awards for breaking news coverage and serious commentary.

The Green Eyeshades, sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists, draws entries from an 11-state region in the southeast.
